{"id":21174,"date":"2024-06-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-26T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ripplesuicideprevention.com\/uncategorised\/west-ham-foundation-and-ripple-host-charity-tournament-to-support-mental-health-initiatives\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T16:34:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T15:34:12","slug":"west-ham-foundation-and-ripple-host-charity-tournament-to-support-mental-health-initiatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ripplesuicideprevention.com\/en\/blog\/articles\/west-ham-foundation-and-ripple-host-charity-tournament-to-support-mental-health-initiatives\/","title":{"rendered":"West Ham Foundation and Ripple Host Charity Tournament to Support Mental Health Initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 id=\"\"><strong id=\"\">On June 22nd 2024, Ripple and the West Ham United Foundation<\/strong> <strong id=\"\">hosted our first-ever five-a-side <\/strong><a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesuicideprevention.com\/media\/west-ham-foundation-and-r-pple-suicide-prevention-run-a-charity-football-tournament\" target=\"_blank\"><strong id=\"\">football tournament<\/strong><\/a><strong id=\"\"> in partnership with West Ham United FC and Shawbrook Bank.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p id=\"\">The charity tournament brought together over 200 individuals, organisations, and sponsors passionate about making a difference in mental health.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"\" class=\"w-richtext-figure-type-video w-richtext-align-fullwidth\" style=\"padding-bottom:56.206088992974244%\" data-rt-type=\"video\" data-rt-align=\"fullwidth\" data-rt-max-width=\"\" data-rt-max-height=\"56.206088992974244%\" data-rt-dimensions=\"854:480\" data-page-url=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/VRt-lVzABKE?si=coeZ1oDOH5L_2dOn\">\n<div id=\"\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VRt-lVzABKE\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p id=\"\">Adding to the magic of playing at West Ham United\u2019s iconic training ground, <strong id=\"\">former Hammers<\/strong> Matt Jarvis, Stuart Slater, John Moncur, Rufus Brevett, Geoff Pike, Paul Brush and Brian Dear returned to their old stomping ground to take in the atmosphere and mingle with the players.<\/p>\n<p id=\"\">For <strong id=\"\">Jarvis<\/strong>, who met Alice at the Smiley Charity Film Awards, where they presented a short film, \u201cJosh\u2019s Story\u201d, and as an ambassador for the WHU Foundation, the event held great significance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"\" class=\"w-richtext-figure-type-video w-richtext-align-fullwidth\" style=\"padding-bottom:56.206088992974244%\" data-rt-type=\"video\" data-rt-align=\"fullwidth\" data-rt-max-width=\"\" data-rt-max-height=\"56.206088992974244%\" data-rt-dimensions=\"854:480\" data-page-url=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-X1uBHPHUS8\">\n<div id=\"\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-X1uBHPHUS8\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p id=\"\">Jarvis said: \u201cWhen I met Alice and first heard about Josh\u2019s story, I was incredibly moved. Being able to tell the story and use her experience to help others is amazing.<\/p>\n<p id=\"\">\u201cThere\u2019s nothing better than being able to help and promote Ripple and the WHU Foundation\u2019s work. I was very engaged back when I played here. We\u2019re very much a community club at West Ham so it\u2019s paramount that the Foundation embodies that, which it does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"\">Commenting on the atmosphere of the tournament, Jarvis added: \u201cWhen you\u2019re a retired player, it\u2019s so nice to be remembered fondly. Chatting to everyone, listening to them talking about memories of West Ham games I played in; it\u2019s just great to be here and be a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"\" class=\"w-richtext-figure-type-image w-richtext-align-fullwidth\" style=\"max-width:1280px\" data-rt-type=\"image\" data-rt-align=\"fullwidth\" data-rt-max-width=\"1280px\">\n<div id=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"\" alt=\"__wf_reserved_inherit\" src=\"https:\/\/ripplesuicideprevention.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/6842c9d820c97ce44c5a9d80_667d65b1752fafc103210ff0_whuripple-94-2.jpeg\" width=\"auto\" height=\"auto\" loading=\"auto\"><\/div><figcaption id=\"\">Ripple FC pose for pictures with Matt Jarvis<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"\">\n<p id=\"\">The event was a sellout, bringing together over 200 players from 21 different teams from across the country, and raising over \u00a323,000 for the charitable causes.<\/p>\n<p id=\"\">\u200d<strong id=\"\">Jack Sullivan<\/strong>, who was captaining his own team, opened the day, welcoming the teams and emphasising the importance of bringing the two charities together.<\/p>\n<p id=\"\">Relationship Director at the tournament\u2019s headline sponsor Shawbrook Bank, and devoted West Ham supporter, <strong id=\"\">Mark Hedley<\/strong> was delighted by the chance to bring the organisations together.<\/p>\n<p id=\"\">He said: \u201cWhat a day! As a West Ham fan it was an absolute privilege to have taken part in the organisation and have West Ham legends here with us. I know everyone at Shawbrook shares my enthusiasm for helping to raise awareness for mental health, I&#8217;m delighted with what we achieved.
