By making the expanded protection our standard product, we can now reach more people experiencing mental health challenges and direct them to free, 24\/7 mental health support.<\/p><h4 id=\"\"><strong id=\"\">Comprehensive support for more people in need<\/strong><\/h4><p id=\"\">Originally designed to intervene in crisis-level suicide and self-harm searches, Ripple will now protect vulnerable individuals facing a broader range of mental health challenges and life struggles, including: <\/p><ul id=\"\"><li id=\"\">Autism &nbsp;<\/li><li id=\"\">Bereavement <\/li><li id=\"\">Divorce and separation <\/li><li id=\"\">Domestic abuse <\/li><li id=\"\">Eating disorders <\/li><li id=\"\">Financial struggles <\/li><li id=\"\">Gambling addiction <\/li><li id=\"\">Grooming <\/li><li id=\"\">LGBTIQA+ struggles <\/li><li id=\"\">Military to civilian transition <\/li><li id=\"\">Substance misuse <\/li><li id=\"\">Suicide and self-harm<\/li><\/ul><p id=\"\">When users conduct harmful searches related to these conditions and life challenges, the Ripple tool will redirect them to<strong id=\"\"> 24\/7 helplines and support services<\/strong> tailored to their specific needs, providing timely intervention and support. <\/p><p id=\"\">By expanding our protection, we will reach and support more people before a crisis occurs.<\/p><h4 id=\"\"><strong id=\"\">Built on evidence and lived experience<\/strong> <\/h4><p id=\"\">Ripple\u2019s expanded protection was developed in close collaboration with more than 30 <a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesuicideprevention.com\/information\/ambassadors-advisors\" target=\"_blank\">Advisory Board members<\/a> - experts, practitioners, and people with lived experience of mental health challenges, each specialising in different aspects of mental health. Their insights have been vital in shaping technology that not only meets industry and regulatory standards but also genuinely supports people when they are struggling. <\/p><p id=\"\">This approach is grounded in evidence showing the close links between these challenges and suicide risk. For example: <\/p><ul id=\"\"><li id=\"\">People with substance abuse are up to <strong id=\"\">14 times <\/strong>more likely to die by suicide. (Wilcox HC, Conner KR, Caine ED, et al) <\/li><\/ul><ul id=\"\"><li id=\"\">People with problem debt are <strong id=\"\">3 times <\/strong>more likely to have had recent suicidal thoughts (Money &amp; Mental Health); problem gamblers are 15 times more likely to die by suicide (Lund University). &nbsp; \u200d <\/li><\/ul><ul id=\"\"><li id=\"\"><strong id=\"\">One in eight<\/strong> (13%) adults experienced suicidal thoughts or feelings because of concerns about their body image. (Mental Health Foundation, 2019) <\/li><\/ul><ul id=\"\"><li id=\"\">Approximately <strong id=\"\">9%<\/strong> of all people with eating disorders report having serious thoughts of attempting suicide (Borges G, et al., 2010) &nbsp; <\/li><\/ul><ul id=\"\"><li id=\"\">People who were sexually abused as a child were <strong id=\"\">3 times<\/strong> more likely to try to take their own lives. (Psychological Medicine, 2018) <\/li><\/ul><ul id=\"\"><li id=\"\">LGBTQ+ young people are more than <strong id=\"\">4 times<\/strong> as likely to attempt suicide than their peers (Johns et al., 2019; Johns et al., 2020). <\/li><\/ul><p id=\"\">Behind every statistic is a person who deserves timely, appropriate support - and Ripple\u2019s role is to ensure they are never left alone at that critical moment. <\/p><h4 id=\"\"><strong id=\"\">What this means for users and organisations &nbsp;<\/strong> <\/h4><p id=\"\">From<strong id=\"\"> October 20<sup id=\"\">th<\/sup> 2025<\/strong> the expanded protection will be switched on automatically for all users of the <strong id=\"\">Ripple Browser Extension in the UK<\/strong>: <\/p><ul id=\"\"><li id=\"\"><strong id=\"\">Individual users:<\/strong> Expanded protection will be automatically enabled. <strong id=\"\">No action required. &nbsp;<\/strong> <\/li><\/ul><ul id=\"\"><li id=\"\"><strong id=\"\">Existing organisational customers:<\/strong> Expanded protection will be enabled automatically for all users. <strong id=\"\">No action required.<\/strong> <br><ul id=\"\"><li id=\"\">Organisations wishing to keep the previous configuration may opt out by contacting us at: <a id=\"\" href=\"mailto:info@ripplesuicideprevention.com\">info@ripplesuicideprevention.com<\/a><strong id=\"\">\u200d<\/strong>. <\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><ul id=\"\"><li id=\"\"><strong id=\"\">New organisational customers:<\/strong> Expanded protection will be provided as the default setting.
